Your Teacher,

Conor Magill

Conor Magill currently teaches at a private studio in the east, a P-12 after-school program in the west, and is open to private lessons at his home in Box Hill South. Conor has a Bachelor of Music (Honours), is a member of the Victorian Music Teachers Association (VMTA), and has a valid Working with Children Check.

Conor has a diverse performance portfolio, working with international artists as part of the Mimir Chamber Music Festival, national stars such as Richard Tognetti and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and even a performance with the ABC.

I started teaching because I knew the difference a good teacher could make to a student's musical education, and can make or break a student's relationship with music. I do my best to make their experience as enjoyable and informative as possible, because I'm not only a representative of the violin, but of music in general.

Conor Magill is passionate about music both as a performer and a creator. Beyond teaching, he enjoys composing and arranging music, as well as exploring the intricacies of music theory. He has a particular love for chamber music, especially string quartets, and finds constant inspiration in Bach and the baroque period. These pursuits not only fuel his creativity but also deepen the knowledge and artistry he brings to his students.

Conor grew up in Gosford NSW, where he began learning violin at the age of four using the Suzuki method. During high school, Conor attended the local Central Coast Conservatorium and was admitted to the University of Sydney’s conservatorium, before moving and transferring to the University of Melbourne’s conservatorium where he was awarded with several scholarships and graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Honours). During his time at university, Conor was section leader of second violins in the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. He currently works in both a private studio and a after-school string teaching program.
